Trauma comes from witnessing a traumatic event, causing parts of self to become stuck in that experience or become lost.
When we experience traumatic events or accumulate trauma vicariously, we can become fragmented.
Those fragmented parts can try to control us, keep us stuck, or find ways to keep us numb from our feelings.
Trauma can also become stagnant or stuck in the body impacting our abilities to be free from chronic pain and long term emotions.
Our nervous systems can stay in reactive states for years causing chronic stress and health issues.
“Why do I keep thinking about the accident or abuse?”
“Why do I always feel unsafe?”
“Why do I always feel on edge?”
“I don’t know why I feel the way I do.”
There are a variety of symptoms of past traumatic events.
Irritability
Numbness
Sadness
Hypervigilance
Anxiety
Flashbacks
Excessive stress
Guilt
Being stuck and feeling helpless doesn’t have to be your reality.
In life, just like the seasons, emotions can come and go, although trauma can stick like glue if not addressed.
